We were honoured to welcome over 400 delegates to the V International Mineral Processing Seminar – PROCEMIN 2008, hosted by the Universidad de Chile and produced by Gecamin Ltd., and held on 22-24 October 2008 in the Sheraton Hotel & Convention Center in Santiago , Chile .

Delegates from 20 countries (Chile, Canada, Peru, Australia, USA, Germany, Brasil, Finland, Mexico, Switzerland, Argentina, Belgium , Bolivia, Costa Rica, France, Ghana, Kenia, Nigeria, The Netherlands and Venezuela) participated in the seminar, representing around 137 mining companies, service and equipment providers, engineering companies, universities and research institutes.

During this fifth version, PROCEMIN 2008 has confirmed to be an international forum where professionals can meet and interact with their counterparts from different countries and share ideas about experiences, innovations and recent developments related to mineral processing operations and projects.

During the three days of the PROCEMIN 2008 seminar, the audience had the opportunity to assist to 45 technical presentations, 4 plenary presentations and 1 keynote lecture, and to get informed about recent development in the industry and to find answers to crucial questions of how to evaluate and implement new technologies such as HPGR, how to improve existing operations using more consolidated technologies in both comminution and flotation, and how to face more general challenges such as changing market conditions and human resource scarcity. Practically all presented articles were published in the proceedings, and are available in both printed and digital format.

We greatly appreciate the hard work of all the authors for sharing their knowledge and experience and thank them for their effort and invaluable contributions. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the Technical and Advisory Committees, who supported and promoted this event and helped to review the articles, and to all the sponsors and delegates. All of you contributed to the Seminar's great success.
